The Smith Family

Back to School

As children across Australia return to classrooms, leading education charity The Smith Family is launching its largest annual appeal, the Back to School campaign.

Creatively led by The Works for the last three years, the campaign serves as a stark reminder that the first day back at school is not an exciting day for all Australians.

Through no fault of their own, 1 in 6 Australian children live in poverty.

It’s a situation that not only affects their home life, but their school life, too.

For these children, returning to school means returning to feelings of loneliness and humiliation – they don’t fit in on the playground and they don’t feel confident in the classroom.

The campaign is also a timely reminder of The Smith Family’s great work to break down the cycle that keeps these children back term after term.

By sponsoring a child, everydayAustralians can help disadvantaged children catch up to their classmates. Each sponsorship provides a child with learning essentials such as books, stationary and data, and out-of-school learning and mentoring programs, giving them the best possible chance of a good education and a better life.
