The Smith Family - Let's Count Bot

Research shows that in their first year of school, one in four children who live in Australia’s most disadvantaged communities start school behind classmates in both literacy and numeracy levels.

Many parents or carers also have negative feelings towards their own maths experience and ability which can lead to a reluctance to talk about maths with their children.

Together with the Smith Family, we launched the Let’s Count Facebook Messenger chat bot tool to help disadvantaged parents and families support their child’s math development in an accessible and relatable way.  

The interactive bot is designed to guide parents using everyday objects and practical tasks to help children learn mathematical concepts such as time, shapes, sizes and weights.
