Brilliant wins Judges Choice at the Focus on Ability Short Film Festival
We are thrilled to announce that short film 'Brilliant' has been crowned the winner of the Judges Choice Award at the Focus on Ability Short Film Festival. The annual festival challenges filmmakers to focus on the ability of people with a disability, tell a story on film and share it for the world to view.
'Brilliant' is a story of autism acceptance, an origins story of sorts that follows a young boy discovering his incredible and – at times – dangerous superpowers, and his journey to self-acceptance and brilliance in his own right.
The film has also screened globally at the New York festival of Cinema, the Edmonton International Film Festival and the Overcome Film Festival.
Inspired by the book 'A different kind of brilliant' written by Louise Cummings, the project was a pro-bono collaboration between The Works team, Louise, her son Lachlan, talented illustrator and animator Sean Pointing and production partners RMK, Siren and Squeak E. Clean.
